From the Rio Vista PD Facebook Page:
Last night, the Rio Vista City Council unanimously agreed to enter into a contract for the Solano County Sheriff’s Office to provide law enforcement services within the city. This is following the unanimous approval by the Solano County Board of Supervisors on January 7th. The contract is scheduled to begin on February 1, 2020 and will be in place for one year. Any extensions of that contract will be considered in the future.
The agreed upon contract is slated to provide the city with a Sheriff Lieutenant to serve as the Police Chief, two Sergeants, and nine Deputy Sheriff’s. Included in those nine Deputy Sheriff’s will be a return of K-9 Rio with a handler and a School Resource/Problem Oriented Policing Officer. Three existing professional staff members of the Police Department and the volunteer staff will remain unchanged and continue their tremendous work.
Existing Rio Vista PD Officers are all in various stages of the hiring process with the Solano County Sheriff’s Office. There will be a transitional phase expected to take place over the next 60 days in which Deputy Sheriff’s will begin assignments in the city as existing officers take employment with the county.
We look forward to this new evolution of your Police Department. Community service and solutions will continue to be a our focus as we reaffirm our partnership with our community.
